I picked up a meguires clay bar kit today, its finally going to be nice here in western PA for a couple days so i decided to give it a try. All i have to say is WOW, the difference in the entire truck! I could see the clay bar work out the little tiny black specks right off the paint and the little splats of tar. It took it right off! It took some time to do the whole truck with the tiny bar they give you but it wasnt bad. Then i followed with a coat of Meguires cleaner wax. And i have to say DOUBLE WOW! It made the paint look deep and brand new again! I use the cleaner wax all the time but i never used it after the clay bar (obviously since this is the first time ive used the bar) I thought the finish was smooth after i used the cleaner wax by itself but not like this. i love it, im going to have to make it a spring ritual for my truck every year. Im glad that you guys sort of talked me into this. Thanks!Oh ya, my truck is red so all the little black specks really stand out, but it looks great now!

I love all of the Ice products by turtle wax. I use the liquid clay bar about every 4 months then the wax about once a month, and the spray detailer in between waxes it all works really well. great shine and no residue on plastic or glass.

a good stiff bristled brush will work great too...i've got one i've cut the bristles down on to about a quarter inch and just scrub the plastic to get the wax off...

Good post! Exactly what I needed to see.

Before coming here and reading this post, I had bought a can of Meguiar's 2.0 to try out. I'm a loyal Classic Gold user, and figured the Next Generation stuff would be good. It wasn't. So I send a "what the h*** happened" e-mail to Meguiar's. Haven't had a response from them yet. Here's what happened:

Earlier today I washed my truck like normal. Pulled it back under the carport (it's a stick carport and is attached to the house) dried it, and applied the new wax. Probably went slower than normal because, after all, I'm trying out a new wax and I want to be sure I get everything coated well. When I finished waxing I (of course) went back to where I started and began to wipe the truck clean, but I was horrified because it looked like I had used a Hershey's bar to wax my beautiful little truck! Although the glazed, dry swirls of wax were coming off, there was an OBVIOUS dull finish and no amount of rubbing was removing it! I put a little more 2.0 on the section I was trying to wipe clean and it didn't help.

I grabbed a bottle of Turtle Wax Ice and began spraying the crap out of sections as I tried to clean the wax off. After using nearly a full bottle of Ice and nearly wearing my arms out, I got my truck clean. It was a scary time, fer sure (but I gotta admit the truck has a spectacular shine).

So here I come to the forum to see if anyone else has any comments or problems with the 2.0 wax and a search brings this post up. After reading this post, even though the time it took me to wax the truck was no different than any other time, I now suspect I didn't let the 2.0 completely dry. I can think of no other reason for it to have done what it did. But now I'm also gun shy of the 2.0.

What say you?

Simply this...the new wax has polymers that adhere to your paint surface. If you didn't wash the soap off in time it also leaves a residue that makes it difficult to raise the wax off the surface. This is why quick detailer should be used to remove all residue!

But when the case does arise to have to take off wax and it's not coming up, putting more wax will not get it off. Its like trying to add water after dough has settled; the chemical reaction has already taken place(oxidize). Simply use a Quick detailer of what ever brand you choose....no quick detailer? no problem....1oz Alcohol to 1 Gal water....and it will clean up just right!

I used to use liquid ice wax too, but I didn't think it protected my paint long enough, it seemed like after a month the water was no longer beading up so i switched to NXT 2.0 and love it, it has been on there for 2 months and the water is beading up just like I put it on yesterday. My system is twice a year liquid clay bar, swirl x, deep cystal polish and a layer or two of NXT 2.0, with liqiud ice on the trim. I use qd on my truck after every wash, and rewax my truck every 2 to 3 months.

Thanks for the input. I was sure that whatever happened wasn't a fault of the 2.0 but I really really want to know what happened.

When I wash the truck (using the Gold Class wash) I normally have my mitt in one hand and the water hose in the other, rinsing each section as I go, so I don't see how the soap coulda been left on too long, and I don't know how I could rinse any quicker than I do now. But on the other hand, that's the only reasonable explanation I've seen so far. I normally wash it weekly, and wax it whenever the finish doesn't look like I want it to look.

But now that the truck has basically a coat of 2.0/Ice on it, and it's got that spectacular shine I mentioned, I don't know what to do. Would you all recommend a cleaning, clay bar, and a fresh coat of 2.0, or would you let it go for now?

By the way, it's a black '02 Ranger 4X4 with red pin stripes.

Here is part of the response I got from Meguiar's:

Out of all the causes, the only one that fits is the one about drying time, so that tells me that it takes longer to dry than what I'm used to. Next time I wax I'll do the tailgate or something like that and give it extra time to dry completely and see how it comes out.

I did my pickup over the weekend. Started out with the tailgate and let the 2.0 dry-dry-dry-dry. No streaks, no smears, and no problem!

Thanks for starting this thread, jstnromero!

No problem, I think we all get good use out of these threads. Good info and glad to hear about the 2.0 working for you. I have always liked meguiars products and might just have to give the 2.0 a try before winter.
