Flatbed Plans Anyone? And No Cruise.

well of course its been a while. I don't consider myself to be one of the typer individuals so ya know. And of course I have nearly fourty pieces of equpment in the shop so theres not a lot of goofin around ya know.

two quick things and I'll do my best to lay down what you may need to know.

cruise was sporatic and then stopped working. Replaced any out lights and center cruise console on steering wheel. Fortunately I have the best truck salvage 5 miles from my house and it was only ten bucks (the center part). Maybe disconnect batteries to clear brain or something? Just irritating not important. Also I seem to remember something for an idle control. Just for cold mornings ya know.

Also my life needs a flat bed truck. Sooo "hello 97 extended cab short box 4x4". I plan on building it myself with steel and wood. Already have the headache rack and end reciever assembly that welds to frame(like a boring old factory flatbed setup) I don't however have the flatbed. Maybe try to do something modular. Any ideas, plans, experience.

Also, anyone need a perfectly fine cruise console?

Check the sensor on the master cyl.
You can jump it out for a test.

i have biult some realy nice wooden flatbeds before. use redwood or some other kind of naturally rot resistant wood. start out using 4by4's with wise where the bed would bolt to the frames this is normaly tall enough to not get in the way of where the frame comes up over the rear axel, then you can biuld the top outta 2x6 and an 2x10 on the sides set up high enough so you have a little bit of a lip above the flat bed, you can then cut a but of a wheel well into the bottom with an jig saw. use an hole saw in the back to cut out some holes for lights. you can finnish it off with an nice stain too if you wanted you could also use basicly the same plans to make it out of steel, or insted of 2x6's for the top of the bed you could use dimond plate steel screwed down to the 4x4's

I made a flatbed a couple of years ago for my 1970 F-350. I used four inch channel steel down the frame. Ran three inch channel steel on top of that perpendicular to the frame. Four inch channel down both sides. Three inch channel front and back. Cut out a little for tire clearance.

Now would be a good time to add a gooseneck plate if you want one.

If you've already got a headache rack and hitch your half way there.

Be sure to etch the metal before painting. I didn't and some of the paint is already peeling off the raw steel.

wow...thanks guys.

Fixed the cruise and it was the cutoff switch on the Master Cylinder. Very grateful folks. And the pictures of the flat bed were just what I was looking for. Just some ideas to get me started. metal isn't cheap so I'm trying to cross all the bridges before I get to them. Definately doing a wooden bed. Thanks so much.

Does anyone need the steering wheel buttons? You pay shipping thats all. Also I have some very good friends that run a pickup scrap yard. Almost always have everything. If anyone ever has problems finding stuff. Just ask. I will help if I can. And half the time they tell me to "just take it"
