Muffler or no Muffler?

I am thinking of taking out my muffler. I have 3" exhaust from the turbo back. How loud would it be if I took the muffler off and simply ran 3" all the way back? How much difference would it make in performance? Keep in mind, the wife has to ride in it from time to time. Side note, trying to get me signature up with info, but unable. Any suggestions?

take it out! it will be a little loud when you hold it to the floor, but the turbo chops alot of the sound up, but if its real bad about noise pollution were you live then you might not want to.

If I remember right yours has a turbo. If so I'd straight pipe it. It isn't bad at all.
My truck is a '94 so I think it has more sound-deadening but It isn't any louder inside while cruising or idling. It's only louder on hard exceleration but it sounds GOOD!
There's a Jake-brake sound under hard compression braking but I like that too.

My Powerstroke is straight-piped too and it doesn't sound nearly as good.

It must be cab/body style/insulation differences because mine is not obnoxious at any prm/speed and you can't even tell the difference until you hit WOT.

I'd pay attention to what the guys with your body style say though.

Go for it, they really aren't that loud. I ran a base '94 for awhile with a straight pipe and with the windows up you couldn't hear the exhaust in the cab.

Is that unmuffled with the stock exhaust & downpipe though? That might be the difference, I dunno.

When I bought my truck it had the factory 3" exhaust with a 3" straight-through Magnaflow installed on it. It was super quiet, but I figure that smashed stock downpipe doesn't let a lot of sound out either.

Even as deaf as I'm getting, that is too loud to drive every day. I like the sound of a good, loud exhaust, but a straight piped NA just sounds like crap.
There is a nice rumble at idle, but too rappy anything above that.
