anyone use 5w-40 synthetic

I went to buy oil today to change in my truck and most of the diesel rated oils I found were 5w-40. I found Valvoline fully synthetic 5w-30 for $14 per gallon and I bought it. I won't put it in until I confirm it will work. What do you guys think?

here since my last oil change a few weeks ago its been everything from 5* to in the high 50's, no problems what so ever, as I mentioned I'm planning on running it year round.
Keep in mind the only diff between a 5w40 and a 15w-40 is the oil weight when its cold, both have a 40 weight when they are at operating temps, there is nothing wrong with running 5w-40 year round instead of a 10 or 15w-40, you will probably notice easier(quicker) starts when its cold as well as a little quicker warm up times as I have, but as I mentioned, at op temps, its all the same.
Hope this helps man.

30 weight is not recommended for summer temps depending on where you live.

I highly doubt the 5W-30 is diesel rated. You can't put gasser oil in a diesel, but you can put diesel rated oil in a gasser. I'm thinking about putting 5W-40 in the wife's truck just so I only have to buy one type of oil. 5 gallon jug of Schaeffer 9000 will do one OC in both our trucks...

just now realized he had said 5w-30, I guess I got carried away with the first sentence. Although I'm not sure if he meant 40 instead of 30

You are good to go then. I know alot of others that use that oil, some year around, some not, but none have had any negative feedback from their PSD.

I use the Rotella 5w-40. I noticed it fires quicker with this weight over the 15w. I was hoping the engine would turn over faster as I've heard, but I haven't experienced that.

Same here on firing quicker, the only thing that is making the engine turnover faster was the addition of the DB high torque starter
