Question Oil pan problems......again

I got the rear sump oil pan in today, and went straight to putting it on. I got the front sump oil pan off, and placed the rear one on there to check the fitting. NOPE!!! It wouldn't fit. The bolts on the bottome of the oil pump are just the slightest bit too long, and hit the oil pan. My question is, if i measure where those bolts are, can I take a ball pein hammer and bend the pan out that little bit? I don't think that it is enough to worry about the damaging the oil pan at all. My only worry is if the oil pump needs any clearance room from the oil pan.

can you take pics and post?
You in theory could bang it out a bit, but it sounds like something else may be off or wrong...I had the same question as havi...did you change the pickup tube to rear sump?

I did get the rear sump. It isn't the sump that is hitting. I can't take pics of it until tomorrow. I did find a pic of one that looks like mine. I will post it with arrows to the bolts that I am having problems with (the yellow arrows). The green line shows how the new sump line runs.

Man, I always forget to put that in there. Mine is a 302, more specifically, a 1969 block.

don't know for sure if this will work but can you counter sink the holes and then use counter sink allen or phillips screw heads? should be close to flush mt. when done.

What year and from what vehicle are the pan and pickup tube from?

There are TWO different pickup tubes, TWO different oil pans used in 1969 alone.

You have to match the tube that goes with the specific oil pan.

I bought the pan and tube as a kit. I don't know what year they are actually from. Here's a link if you want to see it: eBay Motors: NEW Ford Truck Van 5.0L 4X4 Rear Sump Oil Pan Kit DS (item 370153312626 end time Feb-11-09 10:32:17 PST)

But it isn't the tube that is causing problems. I just drew that into the pic so you could see that I wasn't using the old sump anymore, and the new one went further back. The problem is with the oil pump and it's screws. Maybe there is a different pump that is about a half inch shorter, but every time I find something, it doesn't give dimensions of it.

i don't know about the 302 but on the 460 the oil pump is different between the front sump and rear sump pan. the location where the tube bolts on is in different locations.

maybe check to see of a different oil pump is required to go with the rear sump oil pan like on the 460.

the oil pan is probably from a 80's or 90's pickup, so maybe check those oil pumps to see if they are different.

take the pump with you over to autozone, ask for an 87-93 5.0 oil pump.
and check the size * fitment.. should be the same for mounting on both sides.

the 87-93 have a dual reservoir pan, but a rear sump pickup.

The problem is not with the oil pump because there is only one.

C2OZ6600A .. Oil Pump

Fits: 221/260/289/302 cars/trucks/Bronco's from 1962 thru 1996.

I looked in every Ford car & truck parts catalog from 1962 thru 1996: ONE oil pump.

Where did the pump come from you are using?

This may seem like a dumb question, are you sure this is a 302 and not a 351W?

1970/79 passenger cars (not 1969's) with 351W's used C4's in some applications.
