Shot gun barrel lenght

IF the barrel is 16", then it constitutes an SBS and is subject to a different set of regulations. (I don't know all the facts. I'm sure others do, though.)
Measure the barrel, with the bolt closed and locked on the shotgun, from the face of the bolt to the muzzle, like Steve said.
A wooden dowel, inserted into the barrel is a great way to do it.
Mark the dowel with a pencil even with the muzzle, then remove and measure.
IF that barrel is less than the legal 18", I would smash the barrel with a hammer, then bend it, or cut the muzzle end off, so that there could be no misunderstanding by an overzealous LEO/BATFE representative.
Call me overcautious.
I have NO desire to spend even one night in the "Graybar Hotel"!

Just pull that barrel off. It comes off easily. Cut off the barrel retaining band so it cannot ever be used on the gun again. Cutting it up into a few sections is a good idea too. Well, we already know you know how to cut it.
Then just buy a new barrel of whatever length you want. They are readily available between $100-$200.
Forget this ever happened, and quit posting it on the internet.
I would get on this yesterday, iff'n I was you.
