Washington DC Metro Area Boneyards

I'm going to be in the DC Metro area next week and I was thinking about visiting a few junkyards to look for a cab and/or a bed for my rustbelt restoration. I could search further south into Virginia.

Does anyone have knowledge on a good place to look in that part of the world for '73-'79 buried treasure?

I live here and I haven't seen a '73-'79 in a junkyard in years that's within 20 miles of where I live. It's all modern claptraps. Hard to find anything 20 years old or over unless I peek out at my drive. Most yards wouldn't even take cars that old around here, either.

It's better to search outside Northern VA, or western/eastern (anywhere except central MD, really) or even PA. I go to the huge u-pull place in PA once a month with an empty truck.

Thanks Jermafenser. I won't waste my time around DC. Perhaps I'll take a trip south towards Charlottesville. There are farms down 29 and there might be something down that way.

Look up Leon's auto parts in Leon Virginia.

South past the town of Culpeper, maybe 10 minutes on the right as you head to Charlottsville.

Talking maybe 1 hr 30 minutes tops with no traffic from DC.

If you head out on a Saturday, head early, he closes at 12.

130 acres, lots of stuff no good due to age, but there is lots of stuff still there worth taking a peek at too.

It's been a few years since I've lived there, but if you cruise south on HWY 1 starting from Dumfries to Fredericksburg, you might be able to find something. Fredericksburg and Stafford always had a bunch of huge trucks driving around in town, (that's why I hung out there). Maybe ask around in town there and get a lead on something?

Go west! Last time I checked there were still u-pull places in Frederick/Hagerstown MD and the panhanle of WV. It's been a few years since I lived in the area but I would recommend looking into these areas.

Oh yeah, I've been there -last summer, not alot of old stuff there anymore though, except the old cars from the 50's piled up, and thats off limits.

Nottinham doesn't ring a bell. I've been told by a freind of mine there is a good u-pull it down near tawneytown md I beleive. He said I have to go check it out with him. Hopin there is a '74-' 76 Lincoln Mark IV in there, can't find parts for my '76 NOWHERE! Thats why I went all the way up to Harry's and the only one there was fenced off! Uh oh, I think I'm on the verge of being a thread hijacker here! hahaha.

Yeah, the TAWNEYTOWN sounds familure. People been telling me I need to go there, I am just north of Harrisburg Pa, and you go 81 N to the 78 split, take 78 e and it is over near the Cabellas over that way. I would say it is about an hour east of Harrisburg.
