250 vs 350

From Yeti in the tech folder:
The question that seems to keep coming up week after week is
" What is the difference between a F250 and a F350"
Here it is:
There are 3 differences between the SRW 250/350...
1) F-250 vs F-350 badges
2) 2" rear spacer block in 250 vs 4" in the 350
3) *most important* GVWR for F350 SRW is 9900 in most states and the F250 8800 in most states.
From 99 to mid 2001 the srw trucks came with a Dana 50, Ford started using the Dana 60's on all F250/350's from mid 01 to present ,the front axle is identical on both trucks, including springs.
Springs in the Source Book are EXACTLY the same:
Front Leaf 250/350
3600lb 1.12"(thickness) 55.63"(length) 3.00"(width) 350(deflection)
4000lb 1.18"(thickness) 55.63"(length) 3.00"(width) 370(deflection)
4400lb 1.18"(thickness) 55.63"(length) 3.00"(width) 390(deflection)

6000lb 1.25"(thickness) 55.63"(length) 3.00"(width) 470(deflection)
Rear Leaf 250/350

Prior to 2005 there is almost no difference, save for a "350" badge and the duallie. The 350 comes with overload springs in the back (option on the 250) and an additional 2" rear height (taller spring block). The spring pack can be ordered for whatever code you want. Towing weight is the same as well as GCVW rating. As for actual payload I'm not sure, but I don't think it's much different until you get to the duallie.
Starting in 2005 there were definite differences between the two. I'm not sure what they are since I'm old school. Somebody might chime in and help out...

It depends on the year. Prior to 2005 they were the same, same springs, etc., except the F350 came with an overload spring on the rear and a 4" block; whereas the F250 came with the overload spring with some packages (camper package) and 2" blocks. The badges were different. The F350 came with F350 badges and the F250 came with F250 badges In 2005 they changed a couple things, but not to much significance (rear axle shafts).

A F250 has a max GVW of 10,000 lbs and a F350 has a max GVW of 11,500 lbs. There are all kinds of options depending on cab, wheelbase and engine. For instance a F250 is available with a GVW of 9000, 9200, 9400, 9600, 9800, and 10,000. The F350 is available with a GVW of 10,500, 10,600, 10,700, 10,800, 11,000, 11,100, 11,200, 11,400, and 11,500. These are all based on 4x4 models. Your local Ford dealer has a book about 4" thick with all these options. My 2008 F350 crew, long bed V10 has a GVW of 11,200lbs, the exact same truck with a diesel would have a GVW of 11,500.
