Post 345HP Hemi Ram vs S/C HD F-150

I know it can't take the lightning, but do you think a 4 door Hemi Ram can beat the 340HP HD F-150? I don't know who has the weight advantage and i haven't seen road tests on the Ram, but i've seen 6.2 sec. listed as the 0-60 time on the F-150. Any thoughts?

I would say the HD Ford would take it. The power sounds comparable, but the Ford has all wheel drive, so it would get a better start off the line.

Why would you even compare the two?? They are in a totally different category. The Dodge is a 2500 HEAVY DUTY Ram, the Ford is a Supercharged, lowered, half-ton light duty truck. I would say the F-150, but then again.....they shouldn't even be compared.

Now take that Hemi, put it in a 1500, supercharge it, put on better suspension, change the looks a little bit, and it'll give the Lightning a run for its money!

The Hemi will be put in the 1500. Thats what i was talking about. I guess i should have specified. Anyways, it will not be supercharged, but it will be put in the 1500 either this year or next.

HD stands for Harley-Davidson. It's not all wheel drive.

The Ram will have 345hp / 375? lb-ft of output. The HD will have conparable HP but much more torque (425 ft-lbs @ 3,250; much more torque at a much lower RPM than the Ram). That means it will eat the Ram for lunch off the line, down the track, and anywhere else it wants. *MY* normal 5.4L in my SuperCrew produces 350 ft-lbs in stock trim. The Ram realy doesn't instill fear in my heart to be perfectly honest. It's power peaks way too late in the powerband, just like GM's gas engines. Real work is done off idle, which is how you pull a load. The "Duck" (Dodge, Get it?) has to be reliable before I give it *any* street cred.

BTW: If you ever meet a Dodge Truck powertrain engineer, ask why they used 2 plugs per cylinder. (It eliminates a dead zone in the fuel combustion. This is an inherent issue in the hemi design.)

Ford = Dodge =

Nope, and it's a supercharged 5.4, putting out 360hp, 425 ft-lb of torque. It *will* eat the Ram for lunch, especially if enterprising owners goout and get the Lightning lower blower pulley, which will bring it back up to the 380/450 numbers.

And remember that these numbers are *understated*...

Actually the stock supercharged HD puts out 340HP. I wish it put out 360HP. I can't wait till i can drop the lightening pully and a chip in mine. I just don't want to affect the warranty just yet.

345HP Hemi Ram vs S/C HD F-150

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 11:12 AM (EST)]I have been told, correct or not I don't claim knowledge on anything, that if the aftermarket parts that you install on a vehicle will maintain or increase performance over stock then the warranty won't be voided. Performance being more than just power generated, but durability, fit, function, efficiency, etc... Or that is my understanding.

If that is true using a Ford pulley from a Lightning shouldn't void your warranty. You are maintaining or increasing performance using parts of sufficient quality. Besides how many service guys would even notice the difference?

Is this line of thought full of ca-ca, or is there some truth to again, what I have been told?

My understanding of it as explained to me by a darn good service rep is mods do not void the warranty unless they are the cause of a malfunction or breakage.
