Ballast Resistor for MSD/Duraspark Combo
I posted the following in the ignition forum but an getting impatient for an answer already. Can anyone help?
I am installing an aftermarket harness (Haywire brand) in my 53 F100 with Duraspark Blue grommet module and stock distributor, and an MSD Blaster coil. I have a question regarding the proper ballast resistor. My harness instructions and I believe the Ranger Station Site recommends a resistor in the 1.3 - 1.5 ohm range. (Which I bought) I was looking through the instructions for the Blaster coil and the recommendation is a .8 ohm resistor or resistor wire. Which recommendation should I follow?
Thanks

I thought all Duraspark disributors were magnetic pickups? If yours is, then you shouldn't need a ballast resistor at all, there's no points to blow up, or Mallory Unilite module to fry, so I'm pretty sure you don't need one at all. Neither one of them will hurt anything, so the supplied .8 ohm would be a safe way to go.

Check out the tech articles and tell me what you think. Yes, my distributor is a blue module Duraspark system, no points. I was of the opinion Ford still used a resistor wire in the system. This subject is also being addressed on the electronics/ignition board. Thanks for the assist.
