i like the sound of the air horns on the semis and ambulances, is there like a junkyard for them? does anyone know if the air pump run off the engine or electric? i would use the stock button connected through a solenoid(maybe from a nos system ) could this be done?
You would definatly have to have an air pump for the horns off of big trucks and it has been done. The ambulance on the other hand i think works off a motor.Check the junk yards that have only semi's i'm sure the would sell you the parts.
Air pumps for semis are huge engine compressors and semis usually have at least three air tanks. Wet/primary/secondary. Your best bet is getting the airhorns new, an airtank 2.5-6 gallons from AIM, and a gauge/pump/cut-off valve to go with it all.

I drive big trucks and yeah, they do sound nice. Please keep in mind that in most communities they are illegal to use within city limits. If you do use them and cause an acident you will be held liable.
Why not just make it easy and get a new set of Hadley's. You'll spend alot of time trying to figure out what you need/can salvage going the junkyard route. Big Jax RV has several styles/sizes of Hadley horns that come complete with a compressor, air storage tank and all of the hose and fittings you'd need to set them up.
Get them off a train and just hook up an airtank you can recharge off a compressor they ohly take 3lbs of air should last long time.then go to a truck parts center and het the pull valve like that big trucks get, they are legal on the free way but they are ilegal to blow around train tracks
Another option is to get an electric horn like the cops use. We have one on our resque truck at the fire department. They sell them on www.galls.com Most ambulances around here uses those too.

Not around here they dont, like I said, around my neck of Texas most use the electic horns like the police have. Or at least the ambulances that run calls with my fire department do.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Nov-02 AT 03:40*PM (EST)]Hey there I treated my self to a set of Hadley Airhorns for my 1997 F-350. You can get the whole package from any Camping World RV supply store or go online to Hadley-Products.com. I put them on my truck becuse I pull a 36' 5th wheel and there are to many idiots out there who love to just pull out in front of you. I made my own headache rack/lightbar to mount them on too. If I ever get my truck done I'll post a picture. I've might have saved a life or at least some bad body damage to some econo box car witht the horns. Sitting at a 4-way stop I could see that this lady in a Dodge wasn't even going to attempt to stop and the poor econo box just started to pull thru the 4-way so I lit up the horns when I saw the Dodge kept on coming thru. Good luck with the horns, they run about $250-300.
