the 4x4 spindle and rotor and brakes are different from 4x2
the 4x2 has a castle nut that retains the rotor to the spindle.

the 4x4 uses the tire lugs because the center area is open for the halfshafts.

if you are just looking for OEM 4x4 height, get the OEM 4x4 shocks...or the aftermarket shocks for a 4x4. Your 4x2 will then sit the same height up front. Alot of people have done this swap, and can confirm it works just fine.

I'd provide links, but we're not supposed to link to other forums. They are out there though.

But that is only a portion of the part number. There will be 4 letters and numbers that preceed it and a series of letters and/or number behind it. What you have there only identifies the component. It is NOT a complete Ford part number. I would not use that as a basis to say the parts are interchangable. Take that number to a Ford parts counter and see what happens.

MOTORCRAFT® FULL LINE CATALOG OF PARTS FOR FORD, LINCOLN OR MERCURY VEHICLES

for a 04-08 F-150 or 06-08 Mark LT
Lower: part # MCSOE42 (Right), MCSOE43 (Left)
Upper: part # MCSOE29 (left), MCSOE28 (right)
Lower Ball Joint: part # MCSOE7

I cannot find the full Ford Part #'s. the websites for Tasca and FTE Parts Guy hide them, but you can find the parts themselves. The only distinction made with them is that the HD F-150 and normal F-150 call for different parts #'s, but they too are the same piece.

you can plug the motorcraft part # into Tasca's site and it will pull up the same part.

There is nothing special about the lower/upper control arms. I don't know why you are convinced the 4x4 and the 4x2 are different units.
there is no logical reason for different parts. that would require more tooling and more end-user expense.

Ford merely changed the shock mount heights to accomodate the different heights between the models, and then the spindle mounts for the caliper are obviously different.
