High idle at low RPMs

Just got an 08 F-350 with a 6.4. When idling for more than 5 mins it kicks up its idles to above 1 grand. But if you give it a little throttle it kicks down.

Probably cold weather idle strategy to keep the engine warm.

My 05 does the same thing,
but I did the high idle mod so I don't have to wait for it to automatically go into high idle mode.

yup, it is the cold weather stragey. PCM senses the oil temp and raises the RPM to get it warm

If you plan to let your truck idle much you should consider the high idle mod to prevent wet stacking and EGR issues.
