I agree! Personally, I wish Ford would partner with Cummins or Caterpillar to enhance the quality and reliability of their diesel engines.

Ford can put whatever motor they want under the hood, I'll never buy a brand new rig and it will be many moon before I sell the one I have now. For the record, the F650 line can come with a Cummins in it, so you just have to buy a big enough Ford to get the Cummins if that's what you want.
Anyway back to topic- converting gas to diesel, big $$$ involved, if you want a diesel just buy one.

this has come up before and been way talked about but somehow or someway ford used to own/work with/ be partners with cummins and gave it to dodge

I'd personally do a V10 swap. Much, much cheaper.
If you absolutely have to get a diesel, the 12v cummins require no electronics to run. They can be made to produce more HP and TQ than any powerstroke could ever handle and are relatively cheap as they come in everything from trucks to generators to construction equipment (engine code 6TB). The trans will have to be a NV-series that is adapted to your stock x-fer case since you have the ****-poor 4R100. I have seen the 4TB in superduty trucks as well. (4TB). It is a 4 cylinder that can be modded up to over 600hp and 850 tq.
Really, the only drawbacks besides the cost of putting it into your truck is that you'll have to remedy a manufacturing flaw in the front cover of the engine. A dowel pin that comes loose and contacts the cam gear, essentially destroying your newly installed diesel. Its easily taken care of for a couple bucks spent at a local hardware store, you just have to remove the entire front cover to fix it though.

Well I had a 02 F350 sc sb 4x4 that I totally loved but in 2006 I traded for a 06 cc, sb 4x4 lariet diesel and have never been sorry. I have the same gvw which is 10,000 and can't see where 1500 more pounds of gvw would change anything. My truck is currently licensed for 12,000 gvw just because when I put firewood in it I don't want to have to think about being over loaded.
To have changed my 02 over to diesel it would have cost me close to 3/4 of what the diesel cost me and I got that out of 02 in trade plus I went from an xlt to the lariet package with heated seats which great with the arthritis in my back and leather seats. Do I baby my truck yes and no I use it for what it was built for and don't push it beyond that, well most of the time anyways
