2011 Expedition Limited automatic lift gate issue.

MY 2011 EXPEDITION LIMITED AUTOMATIC LIFT GATE OPENS ABOUT 8 INCHES AND THEN CLOSES WHEN I HIT THE OPEN BUTTON ON MY KEY FOB OR IN THE DASH. IF ITS UP ALREADY AND O TRY TO CLOSE IT WITH THE FOB/DASH, IT CLOSES A LITTLE AND GOES BACK UP. I UNPLUGGED IT AND MANUALLY OPEN/SHUT IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Try manually opening the door, and when it’s all the way open, use the automatic function (the buttons). Supposedly that is how to reset the door.

Something is binding. Is the rear hatch damaged anywhere? Check hinges, check clearances (make sure no trim is dragging), may even need to pull the lift mechanism and check to make sure it's lubed up - this may involve disassembling it.

Basically something is tripping the sensor and making it think something is in the way, so it is auto-reversing to make sure no people nor the lift gate get damaged.
