I was wondering how loud it would be if I just ran my exhaust from the back of the cat and out the truck. Would it sound good, or too loud. I dont want something loud and abnoxious, just a nice deep sound. Its on a 351W
Thanks

my guess would be loud and obnoxious.I ran my 83 F150 for years with headers and 2" straights..It WAS loud!!!..finally grew up and installed glass packs. For a deep tone try adding some 4" megaphone tips and maybe a set of flowmaster muffs.Flowmasters sound sweet to me!just an opinion!

i had a 93 302 and i ran straight pipes from the cat back out the back with 3 inch tips, it gave me prolly 10 hp,and like 2 mpg, no loss of torque, i could not hear it in the cab, even with it floored, but it really, really sounded good, it had a rumble like a 302 mustang, also my buddy has a 93 with a 351, and he ran a 2.5 pipe from the cat out in front of the passenger rear wheel, it sounds really good and u can barely hear a ruble when its floored, it would sound even better with a tip

it would be very loud !!!
u should go with the cat back system.
also go with the 40 series flowmasters and 31/2 X 22 inch tips they sound grate
have your muffler shop put a Y PIPE after the converter and dual it out from there

Here is what i would do....(This also has to do if you run the sniffer on you inspection)....Pull the cat off and hollow it out. Leave it on there so it will pass inspection and then get a good set of flowmasters with 3.5" or 4" tips. I can almost bet your truck will sound like a hot rod but it wont have that annoing POPing you get when you floor a V-8 with limited exhaust but you get a quiet idel and a good loud roar when you floor it. I have heard this on my freinds 305 Shevy (shes a woman...dosnt know better...haha) and her BF's 351W Ford F-150. both had lightly mod engines...RV cam and edel carb 600 cfm. Also the cam will make a big dif in sound too. It gives the poping a little different pattern...wonder why thoes mustangs sound soo good? that is one of the reasons. Get like a 270-280 degree cut and you will hear a diff. and its mild enough to run daily. Well thoes facts are off the top of my head....but if you go with em i am shure you will be pleased.
