Nice lookin' truck!
However, that is not the "old school" stepside box I spoke about, that ran, unchanged, from 1953 to at least 1972. The "old school" box I'm talkin' 'bout not only had the lights not built into the box, but the box rails are not flat--rather, they're on approx. a 45" angle. Also, the rear fenders on that red truck may not look it, but in fact they are "squared off" in a couple different dimensions, compared to the older, more rounded shortbox stepside fenders.
As I think about it, I don't know how one would mount a cap on the angled box rails I'm describing, but I never wanted a cap on that shorty, as it was more of a commuter vehicle for me. So, your "updated" stepside bed is probably considerably more practical, even if it's not as "old school" as you might think.
Eh, that bug deflector and head light covers make the front look to gomy. Although it was probably cool back in the late 80's, early 90's......nice shape, though
