Any known issues with the F-150?

I am currently shopping for a used 5.4 supercrew. I searched these forums and didn't come up with too much, but is there any known issues with these trucks that I should keep an eye out for? I'll be doing a bit of towing so I want it to be rock solid!

Thanks in advance!

what year are you looking at? my 04 screw has been fantastic to me other than the rearend rebulid but that was a warranty fix...works good now...the newer trucks are tough and reliable

I have a 2007 Supercrew 5.4. I bought it so I could tow a 25 foot RV. I'm very happy with it. It only has 12K + on so far so I have had no repair issues at all. Just be sure you get the tow package.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the 04+ 150's. I have a '05 and it's been a really good truck. It's only got 36000 miles and the only thing I've done to it was replace the starter at 500 miles, and replace the parking brake assembly at 34000. here's a list of some of the problems I've heard about on here: 04/05- vibration problems, rearend problems
04-06- 3v 5.4 liter motors can have cam phaser noise when at idle( some are barely noticable, but some are loud, most mechanics say no harm will be done because of a noisy cam phaser) the design of the 3v 5.4 motor makes them more noisy than older styles but they are generally very reliable motors.
04-07- the 2 piece spark plugs can be really hard to remove if they have alot of miles on them and can break off in the head if you don't take your time.
If you find one you like take it out for a long test drive and see how it drives, if it runs smooth with no vibrations, and doesn't sound like the motor is going to fly apart it should be a good one. I know lots of people who have 04+ trucks and none of them have had any major issues.I don't regret buying mine, it's ten times the truck my '97 and '01 F150 were.

I tow the space shuttle out to the launch pad all the time for NASA when their crawler is broken. No problems.

Seriously though, I tow cars on a trailer for my neighbor out of the auction, and other than a huge drop in mileage doing 70mph from Denver up to here, it's easy.

23,000 n/a with 0 issues. Did everything I ever asked of her

About 2,000 Miles blown and there is no question it's my favorite truck of them all

I suggest a 06+ just to reduce your chances of any problems...butt overall, they all are pretty good

blindly posting a comment like that is crap. at least back up your claim besides "read these forums for a few days"

the 04+ F-150 has a few minor issues, with 1 major issue, just like any other vehicle. other than the spark plugs, there isn't anything to turn away a potential buyer IMO.

but they are minor, and only a few people are actually affected by them. Ford has litterally made millions of these trucks. It stands to reason that a few will have problems...numbers game you know

buy yeah, there are tons of threads on here about the "problems" these trucks have. do a search and you'll see them...and the majority are with 04-05 models.

Mine blew up, but the dealership replaced the engine, and ultimately the entire truck to keep me happy.

I replaced an 05 F250 Powerstroke with an 06 f-150 XLT S/C 4X4. I tow a 20' enclosed car trailer (7000 lb rating) with a Fox Mustang in it. Total weight of 6800 lbs. with no problems. With the diesel I could tow at 70-75 mph all day without breaking a sweat and get 10.5 to 11.5 mpg. With the F-150 I can tow 60-65 mph without a problem and get nearly 10 mpg. It does want to kick out of overdrive on the longer steeper hills, but it still cruises on down the road. I towed from Carrollton, KY to South Bend IN during the remnants of hurricane Ike last September in sustained 35 mph winds with gusts up to 55 mph and the rig was very stable. Some of the trip was with crosswinds and some with tailwinds. I got 9.5 mpg in the crosswind stretch and 10.7 during the tailwind stretch. The only thing I have done to the truck so far is to install an Add-a-Leaf to the rear springs. I'm still running the crappy General Ameri-Trac P-metric radials that the truck came with. When I purchased this truck, it was equipped as I would have ordered it with the exception of the color and gear ratio. I would have ordered red instead of silver and 3.73 l/s instead of 3.55 l/s gears. I would look for a truck that has Trailer Tow and the 35.7 gallon fuel tank if you plan on doing any towing. That way you'll get the range with the extra fuel and the larger radiator, transmission oil cooler, and the wiring harness and trailer connector already on the truck. And just for comparison, with the diesel with a 38 gallon fuel tank I safely ran 300 miles between fill ups towing and with the 5.4L F-150 I can safely run 250-275 miles between fill ups towing with the 35.7 fuel tank. The only problem I've had so far with the F-150 is that the transfer case shift motor had to be replaced. Luckily it was still covered under warranty. My F-150 was a lease return. You may still be able to get a good deal on a lease return. If you do go with a S/Crew instead of a S/Cab get one with the 6.5' bed instead of the 5.5' bed. I hope this is helpful.

I have a 2007 KR 4x4 5.4 with 29000,and not a single issue. All I have done is change the oil every 5000 miles, replaced the air filter every 12000 miles, and put gas in it. This thing has been flawless. I have owned 18 vehicles, all makes and all models, this truck beats them all, including a Toyota Sequoia which was a total POS. Buy the Ford and don't look back, you will be happy with the purchase.

Have an 07 5.4 Roush Supercrew, so far it has a known rear end "shudder" problem and the power sliding glass rattles like crazy when it's open, and I just got a check engine light for a bad 02 sensor. Going to go get all these problems fixed before the warranty expires though.

I had an 04 I put a whipple supercharger on, and drove it hard....its still running great, and my pal that bought it drives it a lot.

I now have an 07 and its great as well.

I also tow a lot, and did with my 04 as well.

Pulls around 4 people, a quad in the box and camping gear, while towing a loaded down 27 foot travel trailer just fine.

All i have done to mine is added an edge tuner box.
