squeak pop under drivers feet

I have seen on here about the annoying noise coming from the front body mounts. I just bought a 2001 ex that started making this noise the day I bought it. After doing some research on here, I decided after work today to inspect my front cab mounts. I pulled the bolt out and took the lower half of mount off, and I found the problem. The steel center of the mounts are hex shaped and the lower slides into the upper, ( like a socket on a nut) and it was extremely rusted. This may explain the sound like a rusted hinge opening. I jacked the cab up, cleaned the steel centers with a wire brush lubed the rubber portions with a teflon based lubricant and coated the metal portions with silver high temp anti-sieze lubricant. Re-assembled mount and tightened gudentight. Repeated with passenger side and drove it home with out a noise. Also on the passenger side the hole the bolt passes through in the floor did not line up perfectly, so I opened it up with a burr bit on a die grinder, Hope this helps someone else out. P.S. this took me about an hour and half total.

Excellent post! Thanks or sharing! This is one of the common issues with older Excursion. Especially those that live where it snows.

What... all of that work and no pictures - shame on you.

I'll still give some points though - good post.

I have a couple of questions....

Did you have to loosen any other bolts to jack the front of the cab up?

Where did you jack it up from?

Are these mounts easily accesible from underneth the truck?

Thanx....

remove the kick panels pull back the carpet to expose the plugs. remove the plugs, and remove the bolts. Thread them back in about two turns and hit the head of the bolt to push the lower bushing out of the top bushing. I then jacked up the cab with a bottle jack and a 4x4 right behind the mount . I raised it up about half an inch. Just enough to get some lube between the mount the frame and the body. Sorry about the pictures. I am a mechanic and it is second nature and I dont think to document things. ( and yes the mount is easy to get to from underneath.)

just an update, my squeak started coming back a few weeks ago so I cut two circle out of a vegetable oil jug. Cut a hole in the center and installed them between the mount and the body. Snugged everything up and have been squeak free since ( over a month ).

When I run over bumps I get a loud clunk in the front. Could this be the same thing?
I went over the entire suspension and nothing is bad, tired sturts maybe but none of the bump stops have failed so I haven't been able to figure it out. I'm going to check this next and see if it is the problem.

Polurethane Body Bushings?

I have the same thum noise when I go over a bump or at take off and stop. I wonder if there are any plourethane body bushings for the Ex. I put some on my 79 Bronco and I love them that think doesn't squeeq or creek or nothing.
