2004 Ranger misfire
2004 ford ranger edge 3.0 misfires. It does it consistantly. The check engine light stays on all the time, but flashes when idliing. I have put it on a code reader and it said misfire on clylinders 1 and 2 I believe. I have changed the coil pack and CPS also. It has been doing this for some time now. It doesnt have any problems stalling out or starting up just misfires bad while running. Oh and you can also smell fuel while your idliing pretty strong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! And I have also replaced the plugs and wires.

My B4000 4.0L was acting similarly. Intermittent miss but occurring most of the time with the check engine light alternating from flashing to solid. No code was showing either. Turned out to be a bad plug wire that was arcing on the engine causing the misfire. Trying running it at night and looking for a spark or listen for a crackle from the spark. May not be the problem but this happened to me with similar symptons. By the way the plug wires were only a couple months old so I never suspected them at first.

Multiple misfires
I am having similar issues. My 04 Ranger XLT had a couple of misfires, I took it in, and had the spark plugs and wires replaced. It did fine for awhile (maybe 5,000 mi), then the check engine light came on. It coded for three misfires: a misfire at cyl 5, a random misfire, and misfire after first 1000 rev. I've been told that replacing the cyl heads is the fix, but also that this particular engine has an issue with valves not sealing properly. And that this could be checked with a leak down test. What kind of repairs can I most likely expect and cost? Or should I just get rid of it?

Been having the same issue and i cant figure out whats wrong. Cylinder 1 misfire but just replace spark plugs and the wires are all intact no singing or sparks and the coild pack seems intact and working probably. Guess im gonna go ahead and buy replacements anyways and see if that helps if not im moving on to the starter mext and after that if its not fixed the alternator although i cant see the alternator causing problems cause they would make much sense i think.
