spray paint
well ive got a 92 flareside. the whole truck is maroon but the drivers side door is blue from when a deer hit it the PO replaced it with a blue door. I am looking at spray painting it till i get the money to do a good color blend job on it from a local paint shop. Any suggestions on how to do the prepping and what spray paint to best match the color. here is a sorta upclose of the color.

Go to a automitive paint supply store and they can make you spray bombs with the exact color you need in laquer (You obviously will need the paint code from your truck) They will mix it up, then put it in spray bombs for you. Then just sand the door with a 400 to 600 grit sand paper (careful not to go thru the paint, especially at the edges and corners) Tape off the rest of the truck, clean the door with a degreaser & cleaner (get it at paint store) and spray bomb the door. You can also get clear spray bombs to clear over it to try to match the gloss of the rest of the truck. It wont match perfectly, but that is the only way to get it as close as possible yourself without doing it the right way.
Just make sure that when you do get it properly painted, you tell the body shop what you did to the door so they can properly prep it for their paint.

I just checked with a place I deal with alot, they are now a PPG platinum dealer (so of course pricing is a little high IMO)
They cant make your color in laq, but they can in Base. 1 pint makes 4 bombs (You dont need to have all 4 made, 2 should do it.) But that cost is about $135.00 then $4.80each for clear spray bombs. One problem you are dealing with is its a red metallic color (Code EG) which is expensive to begin with. Now you also have to get the silver ( COde YN)done as well (which I originally missed in first pic)
I would suggest let it go till spring, save your money and have it done right. Or just buy the pint of paint. For what the paint would cost you, you could have a shop do it for around the same price.

No problem...last I had bombs made up was about 4 years ago and the cost was maybe half that then. But then it was also laq so I didnt have to clear (it was for rims) I would say if someone told you $100 - $150, I wouldnt even waste my time doing anything to it and just let them take care of it. Thats a good price.

Might look at duplicolor spray in your code. Still, at ~$5/can and probably needing 5-6 cans anyway, it isn't going to be totally cheap.
Put on thin coats and build it up. The spray clear will be the hardest to work with, in my experience. When I did my truck, I sprayed one coat one way, the second perpindicular to that, and the third like the first.
