Talking Just getting started

I have just came in to a 92 f-250 4x4 with a 5.8 EFI. I'm wanting to beef up the motor. But I've never done it with a EFI motor before is putting a new or rought idle cam in going to cause problems with the computer. If not what can I do to get more power out of the motor. The truck going to be my new mud slinger. Putting 6" lift 35 muders. well lets started with the motor first. All help will be greatly be used thanks
