Downey Ford Service - CLOSED

Got two mailers yesterday from Montebello Ford inviting Downey Ford customers. Seemed odd to me that one dealership would try to steal anothers customers. So I called Downey Ford today and sure enough, their service and parts departments have been closed since the 18th.

Damn.

Tell us about that, Joe.

And any other opinions on Montebello are welcome too.

My truck felt like it was running on four cylinders and really crappy. I took it in and they did a diagnostic on it and said it was the UVCH. It had come disconnected. So I am thinking okay reconnect it and I will be good. NO, they insisted that I needed a new UVCH and a new VC gasket to the tune of right at $700. Not knowing any better I paid it. Several days later my CEL came on so I took it back and they said it was a different issue with the GPR and it would take $390.00 to fix it. I said I will pass. I just could not afford that kind of money. I then found FTE and discovered that the UVCH usually does not go bad itself, but will become disconnected and the gasket is reuseable and there is an easy fix for it for the UVCH. Then I discovered that the GPR is a $45 part and it takes 15 mins or so to replace it. Why should I spend the $390 with these guys when I can spend $45. Needless to say, after becoming a member of FTE I have found that if I need to get something fixed all I have to do is explain my issue and one of these guys knows what is going on. Of course if it is a big issue I will have to take it to a shop, but it will not be Montebello ford.

You know I do have tattoos, but none of them are on my forehead and say B of A. There is NO reason to take advantage of someone that bad. I understand that they are in business, but come on that is just crazy.

Ken Grody Ford service is still open, though I've not taken a vehicle there for service.

Looks like the dealership is closing entirely - too bad.

Above the showroom in the hallways there are a lot of very cool pictures of the dealership and the area it is located in from the early days.

I guess nothing lasts forever, but that's just another one of those places that has always "been there" that won't be there any more.

My folks bought 3 cars and 3 trucks there over the years.

My family and I have been using Ken Grody Ford on and off for years (decades? darn I'm getting old!) and I'm currently using them for my F450. Overall they do a very good job and nothing shady going on. I've been very happy with the diesel tech's and their work. The family and I have always been very happy with the service dept. For what it's worth ask for Luis in service and tell him I sent you. Might help, might not but it's worth a shot! He usually remembers me for the unusuall rig I run. If he doesn't remember me by name just describe my rig and he'll know instantly.

P.S. DO NOT let them send your truck over to their RV department, they use an outside company called German for all their RV work and they suck big time! These guys are so lame they can't even get a tire rotation done right!! If you have a Ford RV chasis for sure go somewhere else.

Ford shows up at the dealer, tells them they will buy them out now, or tells them they will cancel their franchise at the end of the year.

Since last August, Pasadena, El Monte, and San Gabriel all accepted Ford's offer and closed.

btw: Montebello is owned by Sunset Ford of Seal Beach.

btw, part II: Ford shuttered Board Ford in Whittier due to several factors, one being that the GM was a crook.

Howard Board owned the store for years, was a respected dealer, and was president of the LA Dealers Council.

When he died, the family sold the business to Ford, they installed a GM who was less than honest.

DMV shuttered the dealer at least twice for deceptive advertising.

Took my mom's 1996 Contour there in 2003, they wanted 700 DOLLARS parts & labor to replace two radiator hoses!

The hoses were 35 dollars dealer net price for the pair, 55 dollars list for the pair. The car had 20K on the clock.

I went elsewhere, had the job done for $125.00.

I liked my experiences at Board Ford for the most part. But they did have their legal problems, including the FBI. But I think Ray Dixon was an honest guy. Their latest problem was falsifying credit scores and income statements to get buyers into cars. Heck, there was plenty of credit scams going on at the time, including the mortgage business, as we now know.

Walking is always a good option when you can see a screwing on the way. I walked a few times too, from the sales and service departments.

There are NO dealerships that won't take advantage when given the chance. My daughter just experienced it at Toyota of Whittier, and I don't even have the heart to tell her.

He was an out and out crook!

In 2003, when the new 2004 F150's came out, Board had a sticker that matched and was attached to the Moroney (window) sticker that read $3500.00.

When I asked the salesman what that $$$ refered to, he told me it was the FoMoCo ACQUISTION FEE!

Total BS. I called the local Ford District Sales Office, reported what I had seen, they sent a rep over there...within a week, all the stickers were removed.

If 'ol Ray hadn't been there, I doubt Ford would have closed the store.

DMV shuttered the store at least twice due to deceptive sales tactics. Since he was the one running the show, who would you think was behind all the BS?

When Ford announced the closure, he was canned that very day. It should have been done years before.

Ray ran that store right into the ground.

When Howard Board was alive, Board Ford was rated as FoMoCo's premier CA dealership, even rated higher than Galpin.
