Transmission Question

Hi, I have an 89 F250 7.5l, with a C6 3-speed transmission. I am just wondering if anyone has ever successfully replace the C6 with an E4OD of the same year. And if so, what kind of modifications are required and is it worth the effort? I'm trying to squeeze a few more mpg's outta this old girl by getting another gear. Any help would be appreciated, thx.

Just off the top of my head, you would need, besides the tranny, a different computer, wiring harness, shift linkage, dash O/D button, driveshaft, and probably a cross-member.

I'm not to familar with the electronics of it, but if your C6 isn't computer controlled, you could swap an AOD. That should I could be wrong, but should only have the neutral safety, and back up for wires.

Putting an AOD behind a 460 isn't any better, as the AOD never had a bellhousing that fit the 460. Then, even if he was able to do the adaptation, the 460 would tear that AOD up in pretty short order.
