Oil Cooler Leaking

Howdy All,

Been quite awhile since my last thread, the Old Diesel had been holding together, LOL Until it started getting cold now the Oil Cooler is leaking like crazy, until it gets warmed up, what is the best solution to this? Replace the Cooler or is it possible to reseal it?

Regards
David

Rebuild it IMO. A new one is pricey.

Thanks Cuda_Jim, was there supposed to be a link? I did find a reseal kit for under $60 bucks.

Thanks for the pics Action, luckily mines got a 4 inch lift so will be pretty easy to get to, one other question what all has to be drained from the engine?

Yep, click on the word OIL. The link was a lot bigger when I posted it....
It's the same as Action's link.

Drain the coolant but be prepared to get a bath anyway. It would help if you can get the block drains open. There are 2, one near the oil cooler and the other behind the starter. IIRC, it's a 5/16 square...and very tight.

Click here for a picture of the drain. Props to TJ Beggs for the picture.

The cooler is pretty easy to get to from the bottom but may be easier to go through the driver side wheel well after you remove the wheel.
You may need to lift the engine a little to get enough wiggle room. Some do, some don't.
