Ambient Temperature Sensor & Display

Has anyone successfully installed an ambient temperatue sensor DY-1054 into the wire harness connector and was able to get the outside temperature to display?

This is for an 08 Escape that did not come from the factory with the outside temperature display option. The connector for the sensor is capped off and located behind the bumper, and I was hoping it was a simple matter of plugging in the sensor to get the temperature display feature to activate.

One solution may be to install one of the electronic dimming mirrors with the temperature and compass display built in. I installed one of these on our Miata in about 2 hours and love it. Donolly made the Mazda one and makes them as OEM equipment for a lot of cars and trucks. Mine was about $180.
