?Trans problem? 94 IDI turbo not shifting right

Hey I have a 1994 auto 4x4 IDI stock turbo truck I dont no fer sure what kind of trans it is but it does have the over drive on the shifter and I think its a E4OD The problem is that it dont shift right you have to let off the gas just a hair so it will shift and the overdrive light blinks on and off the whole time but It will go out of overdrive if you hit the button. I was wondering if anyone can help me out thanks

How are your cluster gauges working? Tach and speedometer need to read acurate and steady.

You may want to check the FILP sensor (ford speak for throttle position sensor). I wonder if some one may have changed the setting to get a firmer shift. Read the last paragraph on this page for info on how to check and if needed, reset the FILP sensor:

The gauges are all working and I think are all right I drove the truck today and it shifted somtimes on its own but it would girk pretty bad when it went into gear and it shifted at about 2 1/2 rpm and the overdrive light stays blinking The guy we bought it from said the light stoped blinking a couple times and he said he thinks it shifted normaly, but when it started blinking it would do that again.

If the overdrive light is flashing, then you need to have the transmission codes scanned. I've heard that autozone stores will do this for free.

Here are a couple of pics, to show you how to pull the codes. You will need to hold the throttle pedal to the floor, or you will get a FIPL out of range error.

have someone with a scanner read your codes for you
using an analog meter and jumper wire requires some experience and it is too easy to erase the codes without retrieving them
and it would be cheaper to have the codes read than to start replacing good parts
