99 Ranger 3.0l won't start hot

My Ranger won't start after it has run at operating temp, until it cools, usually about 2 hours. I get a P1121 code. Yesterday as I was driving for about 1 hour , when come to a stop, the motor will not drop down below 2000 rpms, it did this a few times then was normal after that. Today it wouldn't start cold unless I pressed the accelerator, then it would start and run like normal. The code is for TPS inconsistent with MAF /MAP sensor .I'm inclined to change the TPS, any thoughts? Thanks

Welcome to FTE.

Sounds like the computer is unhappy with the TPS.

Pull it's electrical connector & check for corrsion, bent, or broken pins or sockets, or chaffed wiring. Then check the signal voltage to the TPS.

If that checks out ok, then check the TPS resistance with an analog multimeter, as you slowly open & close the throttle. The resistance should change smoothly, no open or rough spots.

There is a test "how to" with the TPS resistance range values in the "Tech Info" thread atop this forum.

Let us know what you find.

I tested the TPS as directed and found that at idle , the circuit was open. Changed out the TPS and she runs like a charm. I had to remove the throttle body because the screws would not come out, and use an impact driver to get the screws out but cleaned up the throttle body also. Thanks for all the help.
