So if this whole diesel F-150 thing ever happens, what would the price premium/difference be to get that option? Similar to the $5k+ price tag on the SDs??

 

The price premium for the 6.4L in a SD is $6800. I would fully expect Ford to do the same with a 4.4L in an F150.

 

I'm thinking that by the time you pay the difference for the diesel in an F-150, you might as well buy a SD with the 6.4L. My brother-in-law has been looking at 09' F-150 Lariat and the price on them is out of this world. If Ford ever gets there Diesel program figured out I'll consider getting one. HA

 

Ford has actually been crying that the new F-150 have been stealing SD customers. You always pay the premium for diesel, no matter what. If they actually put this 4.4 into a F-150 Ill buy it in a second.

 

I would love for them to put the 4.4L diesel in the new f-150. I too would by one in a minute, but I don't see them doing it because of the current situation with the new car market and the price you would have to pay for a diesel in the f-150. I don't need a super duty but would love to have one. I just don't have the need to tow 26,000 pounds. Just for the record I think they are all good looking trucks. All of the Ford's that is.

 

There was nothing to figure out. The 6.4L is an awesome engine. Ford had to attempt to make their own diesel engine. I just hope they do better than I think they will. I don't know what makes them think they can do it better than a company that has been making diesel engines for 100 years.

 

Ford kind of put themselves in a situation of having to develop their own engine after all of the finger pointing between them and Navistar over the 6.0L debacle. Navistar had no problems with the 6.0L. But Ford turned the wick up a bunch on the motor and it didn't live well or long. Had Ford and Navistar been more honest with one another and more cooperative, maybe things would have been better for both companies and their customers. The 6.4L does indeed seem to be a better engine so far. Too bad fuel economy has suffered due to the EPA mandated DPF and regeneration cycles.

 

Oh how Navistar wishes that was the case.

 

I can't wait until the new Ford built diesel comes out (6.7 L?). Ford has been building cars/trucks and engines for enough years to know what they're doing. They are actually showing some *****, GM runs an (I think) Isuzu and Dodge a Cummins. By Ford building their own, they will make profit from it and not have to pay Navistar for each engine. With their engineering know how, we should see one of the best diesels ever. Don't forget, they have every diesel ever made to evaluate when designing their new one. I can't wait to see it.

 

I'm not real sure Ford is doing the design and such totally on their own. But they do have some alliances in Europe and are profitable for the most part over there. I have heard that Peugot has been involved with Ford and a new diesel. I honestly don't know who all Ford has been working with, but I do know for sure that Ford will have more control over the project than what they had with Navistar. I just hope that the fuel efficiency comes back on the 6.7L. It is a sad day that my 5.4L F150 gets almost as much fuel mileage towing my car trailer as my 05 6.0L did. Granted, it's not as fast, but it does run the speed limit with the trailer on it.

 

I have a 7.3, I rode up to Maine in my buddies F150 towing approx. 6000lb's
it was -30F out, his motor sounded like it had a cat in it going up some of the hills, that truck tows that weight but doesnt do a great job doing it, I dont need to tow 26K either but I always believe in overkill, I need to tow at most 8Klb's, I will always own superduties if I can afford them, thats unless the F150 with the diesel can perform like a 7.3L, the 5.4 to me is underpowered, had one in a 99 F250 and to me that truck was underpowered, climbing hills the truck was a dog, empty - just people..

 

Obviously you haven't driven the 5.4L recently. It isn't the same engine as the one you had ten years ago.

It will be interesting to see the pricing on the 4.4L if they are reasonable I will be the first inline check book out. I love the way a Desiel runs but just can't justify a 3/4 ton. I love my 08 F150 but I will gladly kiss it bye bye for one just like it with a oil burner in it. I think ford is banking on that being the case with a lot of us.

All that said I expect the 4.4L to be $4K or $5K option.
