Speedometer pinned at 160

Well, I guess when it rains it pours. I fix one issue and another annoyance pops up, this time with the speedometer. It's pinned to the right. Just wondering if there's a means of testing where the problem might be or do you simply start replacing, starting with the sensor? Can someone point me in the direction of the sensor location?

thanks.

You are probably going to need to use a scan tool on this one. They get their signal from the PCM, might be a dead cluster.

Check out ALLDATAdiy.com for testing procedures.

Perfect. Just had them scan for faulty heat controls and dead overhead console. Shot in the dark but any chance their diagnostic messed up the speedo?

Not really, however the two problems could be related. Normally when the Speedo isn't getting a signal from the PCM it will rest at 0. With it being stuck at 160, I would guess the problem is isolated at the cluster.

1-800-259-9700(Ford) is the number we told to call when replacing a cluster. Hope that helps.

what year is your truck? If you have the digital odometer, it has a diagnostic check built in. Push and hold the odometer reset button and put the key in the ignition and turn to acc. on (first click, don't start the truck). It goes into a diagnostics mode, press the button a few time until "gauges" pops up and it cycles all the gauges and lights on the cluster. Won't really solve the problem, but it should show you if the speedo works or if its the PCM.

160mph means your excessively speeding and need to slow down soon. I dont think the factory LT truck tires can handle that for long.
