They mean the trans cooler in the radiator tank.

Usually it's IN the radiator, thus the two small lines going to the side of it.
That large cooler in front is the A/C condensor.

Makes me wonder why they need to know that for a lower radiator hose?

Since you were asking about a lower RADIATOR hose I would suspect they are asking about an engine oil cooler, My 97 F-250 w/351 OBS has an engine oil cooler and it DOES use a different lower hose..

With oil cooler the two small hoses come out about 3 to 5 inches or so from the water pump...

no they mean oil cooler, there is a fitting at the oil filter which allows the engine coolant to pass through and cool the oil. i think they are on 351's, i definitely know the lightnings had them.

I'll have to look more into this. I know many trucks have a cooler at the bottom of the radiator but I'm pretty sure it was for the transmission. I have a secondary cooler since I have a tow package, but I'm pretty sure it routes in sequence with the cooler at the bottom of the rad.

Dang cold and dark, I'd go look now if I could...been a while since I've been under there.

Mine has that too, seems kinda hokey. I'd like to put a regular radiator hose on the bottom and run a normal oil cooler up front. Kinda sucks you have to use that short oil filter too.

you can have a:

radiator with bottom trans cooler,

or that and additional trans cooler,

or all that and oil cooler.

and last, no trans cooler because it is stick and an oil cooler.

Besides Lightnings the only 351 trucks I've seen with the radiator hose oil cooler are 1994 and newer. These take the FL820s oil filter instead of the FL1A. Every one I've come across has had one, so they were probably standard equipment?
