I have a 300 inline six cylinder out of an 84 f250. I put it in a 78 f250 but have no way of finding out what motor is spose to be timed at becuase had to change distributors, help would be appreciated

 

If you can give me the number off the distributor I can tell you what it needs to be set at.

 

 

oh, i have one of these in my F150, don't forget to find (if you have now that you switched engines?) the SPOUT connector and unhook it while checking/adjusting the timing. You may pull your hair out if not )

 

Good advice, however, this application is mechanical and not electronic. NO spout connector involved.

 

But I think the chart doesn't show what the OP was asking. It appears to me he wants to know what his initial timing should be set at, not the mechanical advance and total timing.

Probably somewhere between 6* and 10* with the vac advance disconnected from the dizzy and plugged. Then one can use a vacuum gauge connected to a full vacuum source to find a starting point by turning the dizzy to the highest steady reading then back off 1-2 hg. Test drive it and adjust accordingly.

 

Sounds to me like he is wanting to set the base timing. THe chart I posted gives the specs, NO? Like posted, I would shoot for the 6-10* area.
