Difference between 2005 F250 and F350?

I'm looking at purchasing a 2005 F350 Crew cab SRW with the 6.0 diesel and would like to know the differences between the F250 and F350?

The F-350 has a higher GVWR, larger diameter rear axle shafts, larger blocks between rear axle and springs, higher rear end height, higher rear axle weight rating. Can't think of anything else right off.

I haven't really paid a lot of attention to the topic, but here is a list I accumulated. I believe it is accurate, but have not confirmed it all.

There are a few differences between the F250 and the F350:
1) The Emblems
2) The Front Springs GAWR (4000-5600) actually can be the same depending on options
3) The Rear Springs GAWR are 6100 F250 or 7000 F350
4) GVWR on F250 is 9000 and either 10,100 or 11,400 on the F350
5) Rear Axle F250 is rated at 6200 and the F350 is rated at 7280
6) Rear Axle shaft spline minor diameter on F250 is 1.36" and on the F350 is 1.50". Also the splines is 35 on the F250 and 37 on the F350
7) 2 inch blocks for the F250 vs. 4 inch blocks for the F350

Good info. The only thing I differ with is the F-250 GVWR which on my truck is 10,000.

Great info. So with the heavier duty components the weight of the truck will be more. Will I see much of a difference in fuel mileage compared to a similarly equipped F250. This will be my new daily driver that I will be towing my 27foot travel trailer with in the summer.
I just happened to come across on this F350 for $12000can with 152000kms on it.

It's all in the gearing. If your just going with a SRW they both should have 3.73's so you'll see no difference.

I think any difference you'll see will be negligible. They should be pretty closely matched in terms of MPGs. My F-250 has been a great truck. I usually average around 15-17 give or take, in mixed driving. The best I've ever done on a trip (mostly interstate at or around 68 MPH) was 20.3 MPG. Of course, that was running empty and not towing. The worst tank I ever ran through was about 13 MPG.

That's good news. I was hoping to hear that mileage difference would be nearly nothing. The truck does have 3.73's according to the as built data.
I drive approx 60kms round trip to work everyday with 90% of that being highway driving.
As long as I get my a$$ out of bed early enough so I don't have to rush to work I think this truck I am looking at will work out fine.

Next is to have it inspected.

bismic, thanks for the great info.

Now if I want to add a 1-1.5" rear lift so that it doesn't squat with a trailer, is there anything else I need to add besides the rear blocks?

It'll look pretty goofy.

Airbags are pretty affordable now-a-days. Somewhere around 500 installed. Thats the route I would go.

liv, I was originally thinking of going with airbags, but then the cost of installation and getting an air compressor kinda had me looking in other directions. I was thinking of just putting F350 blocks on the rear to slightly raise the rear end to help with squatting. I don't think my truck would look too goofy as it's completely level right now, so if it has a little rake it won't be too bad.

Was that $500 installed price including an air compressor?

You don't *NEED* an on-board compressor, you can just run the lines to a point where you can access them ( i.e. trailer plug bracket) and just fill them thru the valve stems that come with the kit.

GVWR on my f-250 is 10,000 lbs. and the only dif. between it and a single axle f-350 is the 2" axle blocks versus the 4" blocks and 500 lbs. on the GVWR. That is a straight up comparision with the neighbors f-350.

There was also some debate on the SD forum whether the 37 spline axles only came on the F-450 and up, I think they were saying the F-350 only had 35 spline but I don't remember exactly.

Do the blocks. They help a ton with squatting.
