catalytic converters

I have a 1990 bronco 302 with manual trans. I replaced the stock muffler with a glasspack. My system has two converters, the front one is smaller than the rear and the O2 sensor is in the middle of the two. It was recommended that I remove the rear converter to gain power and mileage. Looking for someone who has tried this and I am wondering if it is worth it. I don't have emissions inspections and the local shops said one converter is still legal since some only came with one. Does it affect the O2 sensor or computer? Is it better to remove one or both?

well, if the O2 sensor is in between them, then common sense would tell us that its not sensing the second cat anyway, therefore it would not have an effect when you removed it
