How to wire 3rd brake light on camper shell?

I'm thinking that I can use a wire off the taillight, but it might blink with the turn signal and that would look stupid.

I have a 5 wire trailer harness behind the rear bumper of the truck, can I use that? There's also a light in the camper that needs hot all the time.

I know this should be really simple, but it has me stumped.

TIA,

Craig

I'd just tie in on the trailer wires. For the other light I'd just run a fused wire up the battery.

If your truck doesn't already have a 3rd brake light on top of the cab there is no quick and dirty way to do this. What you need to do is run another circuit off the brake switch so that the turn signal relay is bypassed.

Yeah, that's right, you'll get the blinkies if you tie in that brake light back there.

I did some searching with different words and found an answer. There is a green wire with a male connector fastened to the inner drivers fender, near the master cylinder. It's labeled for the 3rd stop light. Now all I need to do is get the male connector and run the wire to the light. Thanks for the help!

Sweet, should be easy sailing from there. I guess you could see if theres a constant hot terminal in the fuse block and run that other light to there. Not any kind of major lighting is it? Just like a dome light? That's what I have toward the rear of my topper. I don't have the 3rd brake light though, just on the truck.

I think I can pull a hot off the trailer wiring. It is a dome type light but it really only needs to work at night when the headlights are on.

Oh, I thought you said you wanted it hot all the time. Makes sense, you'll probably only need it when lights are on. Should be ok if it's like a single bulb dome type light. I pulled all the old wiring on mine, I think it was wired like that if I remember. The light in my topper also has a switch on it. It's an older fiberglass topper, I think it was installed when the truck was new.

I did say hot all the time but the more I thought about it, it's not needed. There's a switch on the light. I guess I can wire it up to the trailer wiring and change it if I don't like it.
