I lost the cord to upload pictures from my camera to my computer. I got the back of the thing, now I need to get the inner part out. I have read that some people just bust the blades off and this is what thinking of doing, but if their is a way to actually take them out without breaking things I would prefer to do that.

I have gutted a few smog pumps, its not easy. You have to pull the back cover off and you'll see the vanes. If your lucky you can break off the vanes if they are the fiber type or hard plastic. You must get all those parts out so no noise is made. Also while in there, relube the needle bearings that are inside the pump roter. IF you have access to a press and correct arbors(have press but no arbor or plates), you can press off the pump pulley, that will make things much easyer on gutting those things. So far no more noise came from that "idler" smog pump.
How far out is the back cover? The one I did was stuck with rust on the guide pins, lots of PB blaster and some heat from a plumbers porpane torch got it free. the 2nd one was stuck inside on the pump roter from rusted up bearings, just soaked it with pb blaster and keeped prying(praying) it didn't break the rear cover.

I took apart my 92 pump when it seized. It was tough, and something on the case busted. I think the two halfs are pressed together during assy. Then over the years they seize together. Disassembly not recommended, put a new one in and save the world from the smog.
R U Sure it isn't the noisey power steering that u hear???

Thanks for the help guys. After my last post, I figured it out and got the thing gutted. I broke all of the blades off, cleaned all of the pieces out, lubed the bearings up real good, and plugged intake and output holes. Upon firing up the truck I noticed something: ALL THE NOISE FROM THE PUMP IS GONE! Its great and I could not be more happy about this basically free modification. The rear cover was one of those things you get nervous about prying on too hard because you don't want to break anything.
Thanks again for all the advice, this is why I love this site, there are a lot of people willing to share their knowledge and experience.

Thats cool, but, you have a bigger problem than that smog pump.
You need a new exhaust system!!
If u could hear that pump, then that means that beautiful 351 power horse has a restricted exhaust. Open up that exhaust, and make her sing!
I complained about the rattles, grinds, and noises my Harley motorcycle made when I bought it. Nothing wrong, that is what the engine and tranny sound like with a factory pipes. The dealer said put some screaming eagle pipes on it and the noise will be gone. They were right.

I already have headers, custom y-pipe, high flow cat, and 3" cat back with a flo-pro V7. The only time you could here the smog pump was when you were standing by the front of the truck and it was idling. I got the exhaust system covered for the most part. My next project is to make a flanged pipe that I can bolt in in place of the cat, I think it would sound better without the cat.

'Bout 45 minutes, at exit 227, where rt 2 and rt 6 run together before splitting off towards Lee and Mattawamkeag ( if you're looking at a map)
I work in Hampden (right beside Bangor) and its about 50 minutes to work, cruisin at 70-ish down I-95.

I got the part number off of here, but it was a little too tight, the next too loose, and had to make 2-3 trips to NAPA (only a couple miles up the road), getting sizes in 1/8 inch increments before finding the one that was "just right", much like Goldilocks and her adventures
I think I have the # for the belt I used somewhere in the garage, so I'll look in the AM for it.
