5.0L production start

I am not sure about the diesel. It looks like the availability of the 5.0 early 2010. The 4.4diesel line is up, from what I have heard. But I do not know when the production start date is. Essex is to be up in late June 2009 for the 5.0. The crank department is running now suppling Romeo plant for the 6.2l engines. Romeo is building 6.2l but I do not know what they are going into. The Harley Davidson F150 had one at the Chicago show.

So. the engine line up could look something like this. 3.5 base, 5.0, 3.5 EB and then maybe the 6.2 Boss?????
There is a ton of chat on the Mustang forums saying the 5.0 will be tuned for 400hp and around 360 ft lbs.

That sounds like a logical estimate to me. If the 6.2 is going to be about 400hp/400tq, then the 5.0 won't have the same rating (especially for torque). I just hope it has enough low end torque. The 6.2 is already supposed to be a fairly short stroke engine, so logic would tell me they get 5L by shortening it even more. They could make the bores smaller, but that would seem more costly to me. Anyhow, a short stroke 5.0 that screams to an 8000 rpm redline would be fun as hell in a Mustang, but not very functional in a truck. I'm sure they will end up getting it right.

My understanding is that it will replace both. This is just my speculation from reading several other forums so take what I say with a grain of salt. Seems like the numbers for the F150 are something like 340 hp / 380 ft lbs with the FE at least as good as the 5.4.

Do you think the conventional 3.5L would make it way into the F-150 line-up? I actually see the 5.0 as the base. I'm sure there will be a short supply of 4.6's and 5.4's left over to make the 5.0 an option for it's first year. I'm probably wrong, I'm sure Ford has a better plan.

My friend has a 08 company truck with the 4.2 and it is a gas sucking dog. His old GMC with the 4.3 v6 was better on gas but it was geared much higher and was weaker because of this.
I know the 3.5 is going to make its way into the Mustang so I thought maybe it was logical to put it in other rear drive platforms like the 150. Who knows for sure. Im just hoping the 5.0 will be available in the reg cab trucks without having to buy a bunch of stuff or trim levels that some of us dont need or want. I can tell you the Mustang guys are chomping at the bit for the 5.0. They wanted it here yesterday.

sounds good but i don't want to wait and then not be able to get the engine i want which may be a current one depending on the power numbers and curve, i could care less about peak, i'll never use it.

I am not trying to single you out cpdorroh, just using your statment to help make my point. Why dose most everyone seem to thing the 6.2 is only going to have 400hp and 400tq.
From advancments in technology and its cid I would be willing to bet that it will make over 450hp easily.
A mechanic working on the Raptor R said it was making almost 500hp with only higher octane gas and a new tune. Even on a supercharged pickup a good tune can only net 50hp. So i would say expect the real numbers to be closer to 450hp/450tq. They almost have to be or it would be a shudge on the boss, and SVT name.
