F-250 limited slip junk, what do i get
I have an 03 F-250 and my limited slip doesnt even work anymore. I want to put new clutches in or buy an aftermarket locker. What i am wanting to know is what is my best route i really dont want to pull any gears, which i was told you have to with the detroit but not sure about just oem clutches if you have to or other lockers. Thanks

Don't bother rebuilding the oem LS, the kits are over $200 and it will still wear out fast. I just put in a TrueTrac when I changed my gears last month and I love it. With a tuned 6.0L and 35s it keeps both tires spinning very well. Either way you go you'll have to pull the carrier, so you might as well go with the TrueTrac and never have to worry about it again. If you haven't set up gears before take it to a shop, the backlash and carrier bearing preload will have to be set correctly with the new LS carrier. The ONLY advantage to rebuilding the stock LS is you can do it yourself and just make sure you put the same shims in both sides and it will still be set up correctly.

The pinion bearing preload is not affected because the pinion does not need to be removed. Just measure the current backlas and reset the back lash to that number and you're good to go. This is done with the shims on either side of the carrier.
if you rebuild your current unit then just make sure you keep the shims on the sides they were pulled from and torque everything back down and you're done. A new carrier may need to been shimmed a little more one way or the other but start with what you had in there first.
