damn thing won't start this morning

a friend of mine has a 2004 F-150 which will not start this morning, it is not making any clicking sounds when the key is turned, it just will not turn over or even attempt to turn over. Nothing happens. The battery is fine, all electronics in truck work and last night truck ran fine and started normally..

any ideas?

Forgot to say it is a 5.4 triton and there is a very faint clicking noise coming from the glove box area, not sure if it does this all the time though

I know you said that all the electronics work in the truck, but he might just need to get a new battery. If its the original battery in the 04, its going on 5-6 years old. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago in my 04 just for that fact. I know ive read alot of weird things that these trucks do when the battery goes, and none of them seem to really be stereotypical tell tale signs of worn batteries. Just some ideas!

Ok then. Well if you have a second battery somewhere it wouldnt hurt to swap it out with an extra one that you know is good, and then you would know for sure that its a battery problem or not without putting out $ for a new one. A 2 year old battery could go bad unfortunately. You probably have at least a 24-36 month warranty on the battery from wherever you bought it from? Check that out as well, you could at least get a new battery out of the deal!

Another guy on here a week or so ago was connecting a wiring harness for trailer brakes and when he was done the truck wouldnt do anything, he thought he fried the wiring somewhere because the truck ran fine a few moments before he started the job. Turns out his battery just took a dump while he was doing it. Weird but it happens!

Ok. It seems like problems show up here in waves, in coordination with the weather. Once it started getting colder alot of people showed up with whining alternators, then once it got really cold for some time now everyone is having alot of battery issues, and its been showing up alot on the 04's and some 05's.

Let us know what happens.

Ok. Then im 98% sure you could throw a battery problem out the window. Do some searches real quick see if anything else pops up, some other more knowledgable members might have to chime in.

Wonder if the neutral safety switch is gone bad, can you get the truck out of park and try starting it in neutral?

Hit the starter with a hammer, it might froze up a little due to the cold weather.... It does not take a big hit to free it, just some taps on the motor body. I'm just throwing in my 2 cents

I had a starter cable come loose, and still had power to everything else. The hammer works also , try it if cable is tight
