2005 Explorer mpg

My 2005 Explorer ( 4.0L auto AWD, standard gear ratio XLT) is getting in the mid 13's in mpg. My 98 with a 4.0L same trans got mid 16 in town, and 20-21 on the highway. What is the deal, and does anyone know a good tuner in North NJ who can fix the computer? I talked to someone at a place in Freehold, i think it was HPE, that I found on my Corvette site, and they assured me that they could fix it with 3-4 mpg better. What do you folks have to say?

Thanks. I took the truck back to the dealer where I got it. They said THEIR computer said the plugs wires, and O2 sensers were OK, but they didn't pull the plugs or really look at anything. I'll try to pull the plugs when it's a little warmer, and see what they look like.

sounds similar to my experince wife complained about mileage getting worse and not as peppy, scanner said was fine. Plug color was good but the gap was way wide point was down to porcelain only had 70,000 on rig. Use to the chevs go 120,000 before needing plugs. My bad for not listening to wife, hope yours is as simple
