Have a 1995 F250 7.3 4WD w/180,00 miles that is randomly dying at an idle. Did it the first few times after some road time, but now is more frequent. If I keep the rpms over idle...say at least 1,000 then it will keep going. No check engine light yet. Heard it may be a cam shaft position sensor?? Any thoughts?
Yes it would. The CPS (cam position sensor) is how the computer reads the timing for fuel injection, etc. No CPS signal means the engine stops running.
Thanks for the info everyone. Seems like it might be a faulty CPS because the truck will start and run, but just occasionally dies at idle. I will have it scanned for codes...see if anything shows up, and maybe also just replace the CPS.
