got a fuel tank capacity question

i read the my lwb f250 4x4 should have a 19 gal front and 18.2 rear tank. thin is when i let the tanks get really low on the gauge i fill about 12 in the rear and 15 in the front. does that seem strange? or is my gauge just that far off as it gets low. i do not want to run it out of fuel to find out the exact capacity. is it possible i have smaller tanks?

A regular cab 4x4 has a 22 gallon front tank and 18.2 in the rear. I can get an easy 50 miles out of each tank after the needle hits the "E" and it won't run out till the needle goes way below the red mark on the gauge.

About 1/4 on gauge for either takes 12-13 gallons, I try to never run below 1/4 tank because as fuel gets warmer in tank especially here in the summer you start loosing horsepower

you probably have the same problem I do....at the end of the pick up is a plastic filter(some call it a sock).....it gets brittle an breaks apart and will not suck the fuel......I can get 12.5 in the rear when I run it "dry".....in the stock tanks both on E I can get about 26 gallons in the two

hmmmmm interesting. is the fuel pump internal on the tanks of these silly tings like my old dodge? i would guess not since i have 2 tanks and that would seem silly. what's on top of the tank when i drop it? i do a lot of high mileage trips (300-500 each way) and would love to have the extra 7-10 gallons. i am guessing if i drop the tanks, assuming the straps are okay and not rusty, i can open the top and have the pick up tube hanging right there?

Pump is in the V of the engine, most prefer to lift the bed especially if you need to work on both tanks

its not good for the injectors, they are firing on air when you run it to the dying point.

What he said, could end up scoring the internals of the injectors, and who wants to suck up any and all crud on the bottom of their tank

Well.........the pickup is on the bottom of the tank, so even when the tank is full you're still drawing fuel off the bottom.

I never noticed any power difference when I ran the tanks low, and up until last year my truck has always been in a warmer climate than yours.
