I am not trying to start an argument here. Been there, done that on another forum with some sensitive 09 owners.
I am merely curious as to what people think. To me, I've spent several hours looking into the 09 models and checking 'em out in person. Haven't driven one yet...and likely won't.
I really don't want to buy another vehicle right now, and if I drive one, I know a certain 2009 FX4 Screw would be home with me shortly and joining the 2006 FX4...that would be cool and all, but I'd rather have a 2011 Raptor
anyways, I believe the 2009 is a REFRESH of the 2004-2008 models. Nothing about it screams "New Truck" to me.
I base this on several things. But mostly, the 09 seems to be gadget heavy with a new tranny and slightly different sheetmetal and head/tail-lights.
frames are different on the new s'crew, allowing for 6" more space in the cab without taking from the box length. i'd be leaning towards a "new truck" but what do i know??
Hey they just sold a Raptor for a 130K at barrett jackson auction saturday it was really nice. I could post you good vids of the raptor if you like If I can find them !
I'm going with new as well. However, I think it was a mistake at this time. The 6 speed came out in the '07 Expy and Ford has had time to perfect it. They should have waited on a new body until the new engines were available.

"Eyeballing" it it's w/o a doubt a "refresh." Just like the 900 line of GM trucks. Better interior and better trans. IMHO it's not that much of an improvement considering what you could have bought an 08' for.
I can see how a guy looking at it from the outside could think its a refresh. There are more changes underneath though, Im going with advanced, not all new, but more then just a refresh.

I can see that.
For me, the title of "All New Truck" kinda makes me mad...at a minimum, it's a misnomer
The frame is the same with "10% more rigidity". On the Screw it gets 6-8" longer to accomodate the extra cab length, but that's it.
Same axles, but longer leafs...still has the outboard mounted shocks and identical front suspension with steel lower arms. Hopefully the FX4 locker can be retrofitted to a 04-08 model since the 9.75 casing appears to be the same.
Same motors, with the 3v 4.6 added. The 5.4 has been tweaked in the tuning and some dyno's show it at a 14.7 A/F ratio...which is kinda scary to me
Sheetmetal is 90-95% same. New stuff has a ridge built in, and built in flares...the tailgate is pretty cool though
Interior wise...well IMO it's what you would expect after 4-5 yrs. It follows the same lines as the 04-08's, just updated. Not digging the inst. cluster though
The 6 speed is obviously all new to the F-150...seems to be the only real change to me. but not worthy a "all new title"
The technology thrown at the 09 is what I think Ford is basing their title on. And boy are there some cool upgrades.
Thanks guys. I originally believed Ford that it was a "new" truck. But the more I read about it, and look at them, the less I believe. I think Ford hit the nail square on the head with this truck....just sucks that economics are what they are.
I'm keeping my dream alive for the raptor though. It should only share sheetmetal and axle with prior gens. c'mon 6.2
I guess that if "all new" means it can't share any parts with the previous gen trucks, then I'd say it is a refresh..... with a ton of modified or new parts.
My biggest dissapointment is in the engine department, that is the only thing keeping me from buying one.

I don't think you would ever find a truly "all new" vehicle in that sense as there are always going to be parts that make it from another generation. It would be great if a vehicle was totally designed to be all new but parts will always find there way from other models. But to call the 09 refreshed is just silly as it's a totally different truck weather or not it shares some features. Im almost certain the 2010 will be a great refresh of the 2009 and it again will be nothing like the 08.
That is exactly my point. We are arguing over a defination, yet no one has defined what is "all new" and what is a "refresh."
Regardless, I find it to be a very nice truck, just lacking in the engine department (I drive a turbo diesel that dyno's @ 500 hp, so I've been spoiled). A 400hp ecoboost might satisfy my cravings for power.... maybe
