Question is it possible to open/close vgt vanes with tuner?

hey guys, as you probably well know took my truck to the dealer the 3x time in 4yrs o ownership for stick turbo issues, is it possible to open and close the variable vanes on the turbo with a tuner? my friends 08 when it starts it opens and closes the vanes on the big turbo to keep them from sticking. i believe it does this on shut down also to prevent the infamous sticking issues with our turbos. can a tuner be programmed to do this on start-up and or shut-down to prevent sticking issues and why has ford not thought of this from the get go. in my opinion it would go a long way to prevent turbo cleaning issues for a majority of customers who have repeated high/low boost and cyl head gasket issues, am i wrong? can this be done or is it a pipe dream?

There has been a flash out for about 2 years that already does this. Not really noticable unless you have a straight piped truck, but you can definitely hear the turbo cycling.....or it's supposed to.

yeah, it only does it if the egr is plugged in though, i sent my truck in to get some work and they plugged my egr back in, i thought my turbo was biting the dust when i got it back because of its cycling.

i also wanted to be able to do this though, so i could get the sound of the rumble when the truck is idling, instead of the turbo when i had a straight pipe, here is a gm that has it done

is it possible to get a programmer such as sct tuner to get a program from spartan to program a tune with egr off, and turbo cycle after driving or before driving during cold startup? this would stop the turbo coking/rust build up and keep the egr junk out of the intake right?

well thats what the flash with the turbo cycling ford has out is supposed to do, cycles the turbo when you are idling to keep it from seizing up. but like i said you need to have the egr plugged in for it to do that

i had the flash for the egr shut off after 4-5min idling and the turbo vane cycling during idling periods but i unplugged the egr and dummy valved it, but this did not work correctly and the turbo is sticking again, too bad somebody could make a dial you could install with a sct tuner and custom tunes that would allow you full control over the vgt part of the turbo actuator to turn it from 5%-90% duty cycle this would shourly help with acceleration and hill climbing for shure.

i asked storm about it awhile ago when he was still working with spartan, he said they couldn't do it but i'm sure you must be able to get in the computer and do something like what you want.

CHECK THIS LINK OUT:

PPE Boost Controller for the Duramax

this is what i thought we could do the the 6.0L
dial the boost from 0-25psi to prevent turbo sticking.
is the turbo for the dmax similar to the 6.0? is it
electronically controlled and hydraulically actuated like the 6.0L?
or is it just electronically controlled like the 6.4L turbos are?

Dont know if this would help but I seen in the diesel power magazine Banks has something out that opens and closes the vanes to act like a engine brake (or exhaust brake). You can set the percentage on it just wonder if you can make it work for what your talking about?

This is a job for Spartan's Phalanx tuner. My EX has a stock motor and it sounds great with the cycle at no boost. On my 350 at about 2300 rpm the big block sound takes over the turbo and I love it.A tuned 6.0 on song is sexual, or I am a sucker for a 6s song.LOL
