I read all the various threads regarding hub, rotor and axle removal on here, but am struggling to remove the front axle shaft clips from my 2005 F350 King Ranch with auto hubs. Everything came apart fine to this point, but after removing the auto hub I can see that the snap ring assembly is somewhat different than on the pictures here or in the Chiltons manual. The difference is that it appears to be behind a shoulder on the spindle. I tried the snap ring pliers I have, I purchased an $80 pair from NAPA and a cheaper pair from Car Quest, but none will do the trick. Its such a deep reach in and the ring would have to expand so far to clear the shoulder the pliers bind. Is there a special set of pliers for this or am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up pulling the hub and axle shaft out together to get at the ujoint but still can't get the snap ring off. I'm baffled. Didn't find anything in a quick look at motorcraftservice but thanks for trying.

 

the pliers you need are currntly produce by snap on and are part # SRPc9000A witout buying these good luck and have a great day of fun, with these 5 minutes and its off. BTW 30 dollars is what they cost.
