'78/'79 dana 60 front drivers side u-bolt ?

got my snofighter 60 into my '85 bronco ...

used the factory under axle spring plates ...

on top of the springs i used the factory plate that has the u-bolts about 3" apart ...

on the bottom the factory spring plate has them about 5 apart ...

in other words the u-bolts, from the side look like an A-frame ...

is this normal or should the u-bolts be further apart on the top?

the top plates were rusted on top of the springs (although they did have the white nylon anti squeak pads) so i assume they came this way?

thanks

My Highboy is the same way. The holes in the lower plate are angled so the washers still sit flat against it.

the driver side does look like that because the u bolts have to go over the carrier casting on the driver side. the driver side leafsprings and u bolts are tight up against the diff carrier on this side so they have to be angled like that. if you look on the passenger side u bolts, they too are slightly angled as well.just not as much. all the factory ones i have seen look this way. (i just looked at my truck and they are the same.)

Make some new spring plates and upgrade the u-bolts and flip those things. You have gone this far, so dont stop now.
U-bolt flip now , and ditch those heavy, stcock, nasty looking rock magnets.

You would hate mine. I still haven't trimmed the extra 2" of thread off them.

Probably would let you slide for a little while. Then I might have to just make some spring plates for you.........

Why would I cut my custom Deaver bolts? I paid good money for those, hate to take a wheel to them.
Shouldn't you be wheelin' instead of sittin' at the 'puter on clear 80 degree Sat.?

Going a different direction. I have to build a Track-lok as a spare, and I am going to the pomona swap meet tomorrow. Keeping it low and slow this weekend.
Gonna take monday off though, and heading up to Big bear.
I cant go that long without some wheeling.
