gas tank filler access

Well, now that I have the trap door for the gas tank filler access in the bed.. I don't know where to put it.. get the filler neck opening parallel to the bed floor, then the flap directly over?

I am using the rectangular flap from MF

Not sure how your tank looks but I have a 17 gal one from No Limit. I bought the same flap that you have ( I think it is to small ) but changed my mind for now and went with a plywood floor ( $600.00 worth of wood and polished ss setting in the basement ). Made my own opening door over top of the filler (picture in my gallery). It's still a real pain to fill and not spill gas on the wood plus in my case you can't fill the tank and park on a slight grade with out it leaking out the overflow and setting in my roll pan.

So I would mount it directly over the filler neck and be real carefull when filling.

I agree on it being to small I brought one and ended up using one from Advanced Auto parts.

I put my tank under the cab far enough to use the original filler so I won't have to drag a hose over my bed side and spill gas in the bed.

I cut out for the rectangular one, but don't like the way it looks..too small

I went autzone (none at Advance) and got one of the round flaps (like you).. I see yours is without lock.. I need to find one of those.. as I was only able to find the locking version..

it will be fine tho..

I can't tell from your pics, did you router the bed wood to seat the cover flush with the wood?

thanks..

thanks.. yes, having the filler in the bed is cute, but problematic as you note..
if you have a load of stuff in the bed, you can't get gas.. and of course you have to drag the hose over the paint, and then deal with the dripping..

we did this on a prior pickup (66 chevy) to get the tank out of the cab.
