Chipping Ford 7.3L PS Problem! Help reset computer to factory settings!
Hey guys,
A friend of mine just bought a SuperChip FlashPaq for his 2000 7.3L PS. He tried to install the chip with no success. He took his truck to the Ford house and they told him the vehicle had already been chipped. The maintenance guys there told him he had to buy a new computer because it cant be flashed back to factory settings. I have read many threads here, but need just a little more clarificaiton. Does he need to have the original tuning unit to reset his computer to factory settings? Or will unplugging the batteries clear the flash tune the prior owner put on the vehicle?
Thanks fellas,
Chris

Unhooking the batteries won't work. I'm not exactly sure how the superchips works, but I was under the impression that it would store whatever info was on the PCM, then write it's tunes to the computer.
Now if his truck has a chip in it currently, that will need to be physically removed from the PCM before any other tunes are added. Also, the Ford house is more than capable of reflashing the PCM without having to replace it.

That's why so many refer to them as "stealerships". You're right, it's just a computer. Unless there's internal damage, they can just reprogram it and start over.
Are you East coast, West Coast, or learning Japanese? (although I keep reading how there getting ready to leave Okinawa.) I was 0311 on the West coast a few years back. There's several of us on here, including a couple of actives. I know Danny is fixing to leave for the sandbox soon.

I am a POAG. I am about to start my last semester at the University of New Mexico before I commission in the MECEP program. I am currently a SSgt and cannot wait to get back to the fleet. I am just done with being a college kid.
Well that sucks. I am going to tell my buddy to call the other Ford dealerships in town and see if they can flash his computer back to stock settings. What is the PCM?

PCM is the Powertrain Control Module, aka computer. Also called the ECM electronic controle module.
At least you're not playing college kid in Kalifornia. I doubt the other zeros will be fond of you, but as an E-6, at least you understand how to keep things running efficient. I know your men will appreciate that.
