2011 Ford Ranger - What do you think?

2011 Ford Ranger
Sure would hate to see the Ranger ruined. I've owned three since 1986, and loved them all. Currently I'm driving a 2002 Ranger XLT standard cab, 2WD, 2.3L 4 cyl. engine, 5 speed manual transmission. I get great mileage (28 -31 MPG) with 152,000 miles on it. The truck rides and handles great and has more than adequate power. Sure it might not lay rubber, but it has good accelaration. If Ford did anything to the Ranger, I would like to see them develope a diesel engine for it.

They don't have to develop a diesel engine for it, the rest of the world is already driving diesel Ranger's. As far as "ruining" any marque goes, well, that's all just progress. I remember thinking that Ford "ruined" the F150 when they changed from the sleek and lineal grill on the 76-77 to the bulky centered style found on the 78-79's. To this day many people upgrade the grills on their 73-77's to the 78-79 style, so who is to judge what ruins something? Most of us Ranger fanatics are perfectly happy with our trucks just the way they are and would probably continue to buy them in their present form for years to come, but the simple truth is that the Ranger marque is going to need a head to toe upgrade in order to survive and attract new buyers.

Why in the heck does everything have to go 'Tough', or 'Retro'??
Why don't they just tow the line. Make a truck that is light, and efficient?
We NEED an efficient 1/2 ton truck. Not the Hulk that is the F150.
So now We're going to get another overweight, under powered, fuel hog for a Ranger?

I've been waiting for news of the 2010 model ranger. Is there going to be one? I'm on my second ranger since 2000. I was hoping to continue my 5 year itch to purchase a new one. Both have been I4's 4x2 and I fully enjoy this little bundle of fun. My Current one I custom purchased as I4, Auto trans 5w/OD, power windows and side mirrors. The only problem I've had is the Tires (Continentals) that that won't stay balanced. Wished ford would have stayed with the Firestones.

I'm pretty new to Rangers, but as soon as I got my first one,I fell in love with them.Mine went to Ranger heaven last tuesday due to a mechanical failure that caused me to wreck, but I was able to walk away from it unscathed because of the Ranger's safety ratings.I fell even more in love with them after my accident. For my next one,I want either a White, silver,or blue 1998-2007 Supercab Fx4.I like my 73-96 F-Series trucks with single cabs, but I like my Rangers with Supercabs, even though my 2000 was a single cab.I really hope they don't mess with the Ranger cause it's the only reason i'm staying with Ford.I don't like the new F150,and the F2 and 350 are okay, but Ford is just doing too much to them.

I hope there is a 2010 ranger. At first when I heard that Ford was going to a F100, I was wondering who come up with the idea to scrap 28-30 mpg from the rangers. This is better than any 4 cylinder i've ever had. I've been a 4 cylinder owner for ever, at least all the way back to the 64 beetle. I think Ford did a really good job engineering this ranger. I should remind all ranger owners that rangers are only light duty trucks. I'm glad that it takes a licking and keeps you safe.

Well, things got a little worse for me today. As If me getting in an accident with my Ranger wasn't enough,I just found out that my girlfriend got in accident tonight. It wasn't anywhere near what mine was,but it still kinda shakes me up.I thought my bad week was over, but apparently not.

why replace the current ranger with the f100 and make the ranger even smaller? Seems like a waste of money, as something even smaller and weaker than the current ranger isn't gonna be used for towing. It's gonna somethin for morons to drop to the ground and fill the bed with speakers, and that's an amazingly large market huh? I think Ford should scrap the F100 idea and keep the current ranger. They're trucks, gas mileage shouldn't be the top priority, longevity, power, and towing capability should be.

The new world ranger is going to be 4 cylinder based for fuel economy. I don't think towing will be a problem as it will more than likely have a diesel option as well the the ecco-boost 4 cylinder. Engineers said the new ranger maybe a tad smaller, wasn't sure yet, but it should be no bigger than the current ranger. For more agressive towing and hauling you could step up to the F-100. The new ranger wil be a compact p/u with fuel economy in mind. I would welcome a 4 cylinder 4x4 ranger again. The new 4 cylinders ahve a lot more power than they did when the ranger first came out. The ecco-boost 4 cylinder make well over 200 hp, Don't be to quick to judge the new world ranger. There are no pitures of it yet, so no one knows what it looks like.

200 hp but the torque is prolly gonna be lacking without the cubic inches to help out. I just think if they're gonna make it any smaller they should just forget making it fuel efficient or whatever because it's already intensely fuel efficient when you look at the 4 cyl manual trans 2wds. If anything they should make it smaller but give it a more aggressive powertrain, furthering their FX4 lineup. A 4.0L shorter ranger would be excellent for offroading
