I just had a detroit locker installed in mine, I didn't really trust myself to do it but I believe you just need new carrier bearings because you will trash the old ones. And you need your set-up for whatever your going to be putting in there, the locker that was installed replaced all my spider gears but kept my original ring and pinion.

Actually if you get a new pumpking "center section" you can easily swap it in yourself. Some will argue that traction locks are not really good on ice. Mine tend to head to the right when both wheels start spinning.

The Detroit Locker was originally designed for and installed in 1962/64 Galaxies for straight ahead performance at dragstrips

Dunno if there have been any changes to this type of setup or not, but they once were notorious for snapping axle shafts when the cars were driven around corners.

I remember when I was young I had a posi set up put in my car. I stopped at a four way intersection to make a left turn and the road was wet. As I started into the turn the tires started to spin and I went around in a ring VERY fast. If there had been a vehicle setting to my left waiting to go through the intersection I would have slammed into them.

They will also start going side ways on you if your not carful. After I got onto it, it was kinda fun, by the motor was a monster too.

My point is if your not familure with this type of rear it can get away from you rather quick. Just a pearl of wisdom,.............

im pretty familiar with using them and driving them im just not very educated any other options or what i can do cause either way ill need posi in winter and summer for work i think its called a slip lok would that work so both wheels are not always spinning and straining the axle on corners? that way wen i start spinning it kicks in?
